Botanical methods in religious monuments studies on the example of the Vaigach island
Abstract. This paper discusses the use of botanical methods for such tasks as searching for objects of cultural heritage, the description of the environment, the definition of the boundaries and age of shrines and sacred places. A general scheme of overgrowing of disturbed areas around the cultural heritage objects in conditions of Vaygach tundra are shown.
Key words: Vaigach island, sanctuaries, sacred places, vegetation, permafrost, solifluction.
