Abstract. The article examines the term «world heritage» and the main processes of inheritance of the world heritage based on various factors. The article is a comprehensive analysis of the practice of preserving the world heritage, understanding the right of inheritance, and also suggests the main ways to establish legislation on heritage. As a result, the article presents one of the schemes with the justification of the main problems related to the understanding of the world and national historical, cultural and natural heritage, and helps to see those aspects that fall out of the traditional vision both in terms of theoretical analysis and in terms of legal description.

Key words: cultural and natural heritage, international law, Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage of 1972, historical space.
