The House of the Moscow archaeological society
(the chambers of Averky Kirillov on Bersenevka) in 1868–1923
and the representatives of the scientific and cultural community
within its walls
Abstract. The article is devoted to the Moscowarchaeological society (MAS) (1868–1923) and his residences – the medieval chambers of Averky Kirillov on the Bersenevskaya embankment in Moscow. In 1868 the emperor Alexander II granted the ancient monument to the Society and for 50 years the famous scientists and the cultural figures worked in this building (the House of MAS). The article briefly describes the history of the chambers themselves, their study and the first restoration carried out by MAS. Brief information is given about the leaders and the individual members, in general, the scientific community that worked within the walls of the ancient monument is characterized, and for the first time the memorial significance of the chambers is analyzed in connection with the period of MAS's stay in them.
