Preliminary results of studying archaeological context of Tomskaya Pisanitsa

Abstract. The article presents the results of archaeological research conducted in 2023 on the top of the Tomskaya Pisanitsa solid rock, near the main accumulation of petroglyphs. The obtained material is represented by various groups of finds including fragments of the lower jaw and teeth of horses, stone industry objects, and fragments of an arrowhead. The authors propose a preliminary interpretation of the identified location as a place for performing religious activities. The chronological heterogeneity of archaeological material from Tomskaya Pisanitsa indicates the long-term use of this sacred space by people.

Key words: rock art, petroglyphs, Tomskaya pisanitsa, early Iron Age, early Middle Ages, place of worship, altar, Pritomye.
