Program 'Memory of the Russian Arctic' of the Marine Arctic Complex Expedition at the Natural Heritage: concept, implementation, prospects
Abstract. The article describes the program for the creation of a unified system for perpetuating the memory of domestic and foreign pioneers of the Russian Arctic, the implementation of which was started by the Marine Arctic Complex Expedition (MACE) in 1989. The author of the concept of the program, called «Memory of the Russian Arctic», was a famous Russian scientist, professor P.V. Boyarsky (1943-2022). In 1989-2023, the MACE installed 20 memorial crosses and signs. The geography of their installation covers almost the entire Russian Arctic – from the White to the Chukchi Seas. At present, there is a pressing need to create a unified system for perpetuating the memory of people and events associated with the history of the Russian Arctic. The installation of the signs will contribute to the inviolability of Russia's Arctic borders, strengthening its priority in the region, as well as preserving monuments and memorial sites of the history of the development of the Russian Arctic and promoting the cultural and natural heritage of the Arctic.
