Architecture of Alaskan Orthodox Churches
Abstract. This article comprehensively examines the architecture of Orthodox churches (and a few chapels) in Alaska, including their urban significance and interior decoration. It offers some insights into the ways in which these churches borrowed from Russian, Western European, and continental American architecture, and identifies distinctive features of local creativity. Following this overview, a stereotypical image of the Alaskan Orthodox church is presented.
Keywords: Alaska, architecture, Orthodox churches.
