Spiritual inheritance of modern religious painting on the example of diploma canvases from The Ilya Glazunov Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture
Abstract. Based on the study of the canvas «The Last Supper», created for the Cathedral of Christ the Savior by the modern artist V. A. Cherny, it is shown that realism in its classical sense is a universal pictorial style and a key method of embodying the image when transmitting not only historical, but also biblical subjects. As a key issue of the development of modern classical realism and its opposition to actual art, the measure of introducing visual techniques of statics and monumentality into the space of a pictorial work is investigated. It is concluded that, based on the dialogic nature of art schools and traditions, modern classical realism creates the basis for a high spiritual, aesthetic perception, familiarization of the viewer with the values of domestic and world culture. Thus, this style reaches special peaks of fine art.
Key words: classical inheritance, modern classical realism, tradition and innovation in fine arts, modern painting, artistic language, aesthetic image, interactivity of arts, The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
