Musical comedy: past and future

Abstract. Musical dramatic genres, in which music and prose dialogues were an integral part of them, have existed for many centuries. They find continuation in the genre of musical comedy dominated the musical theaters of the USSR in the middle of the 20th century. Many trends in contemporary musical theater have their origins in the genre of musical comedy.

Key words: musical comedy, operetta, musical theater, music history.
