Mapping of the Russian Arctic: experience and prospects

Abstract. The article deals with the principles of mapping the cultural, spiritual and natural heritage of the Russian Arctic. Integrated mapping of the Arctic heritage is the identification, collection and systematization of extensive information about the heritage sites of the region. A summary of the first published maps of the region's heritage is given. The accumulated experience in creating maps of the Russian Arctic heritage can be used in the creation of the Atlas «Cultural, spiritual and natural heritage of the Russian Arctic». The novelty and originality of the content, scientific and applied values of the Atlas, will provide a worthy place in a number of classic cartographic works.

Key words: mapping, cultural heritage, natural heritage, National Atlas of Arctic.
