A.A. Zolotarev about «Confession» by M. Gorky: Literary local history (with Gorky’s Archive sources)
Abstract. The article is devoted to the treatment of the Gorky’s story «Confession» (1908) by A.A. Zolotarev, who was writer, historian and ethnographer. Method of literary local history resorted to in his essay on the work by Gorky, A.A. Zolotarev paradoxically reveals the Italian component of the Gorky’s worldview in Capri period. Italy and Rome, their history, legends, national idea and features of the Italian national character become one of the sources of the philosophy of collectivism, along with «other» marxism of Bogdanov and religious socialism Lunacharsky. This article is written after the essay «Capri period in the life of Gorky and Gorky period in Capri» by A.A. Zolotarev, which is kept in the Archive of A.M. Gorky in the Institute of World Literaturenamed after A.M. Gorky of Russian Academy of Sciences.
