GOSNIIR Experimental Fund in the context of the history
of restoration of tempera painting
Abstract. The article examines the formation of restoration approaches to Ancient Russian painting, with an emphasis on the first experiments and research tasks of the 20th century. The process of creating the All-Union Central Research Laboratory for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (VCNILCR) and its main tasks are being studied. In addition, attention is being paid to the composition of the experimental fund of the tempera department of the All-Russian Scientific Research Center (now GOSNIIR). The problems that arise during the restoration of late icon painting are mentioned. As an example of scientific research, the use of objects of the fund for solving restoration tasks on monuments and verifying the materials being developed is considered.
