in the funds of the State Historical Museum

Abstract. The article examines the letters from the members of the Moscow archaeological society from the funds of the Department of Written Sources of the State Historical Museumas a valuable source for studying the history of the Moscow archaeological society, the activities of its members in the study and preservation of monuments. The letters of the architect A.A.Avdeev and the city head of the Ryazan A.V.Antonov to the secretary of the Moscow archaeological society V.E.Rumyantsev in the 1870s are analyzed. According to the materials from the Department of Written Sources of the State Historical Museum and to the published sources, the participation of A.A.Avdeev and A.V.Antonov in the activities of the Moscow archaeological society is shown for the first time.
