Abstract. The results of archival research and restoration works on the architectural structures built by the Nizhny Novgorod merchant S.M Rukavishnikov gave us the possibility to change historical stereotypes about him and represent him as a creative personality whose activity is an example of successful use of innovations of his time.
Key words: S.M.Rukavishnikov, provincial entrepreneur, urban and rural estate, architectural style, building materials, «model farm”, technologies.
