Study of the metal faming of the icon 'The Mother of Tenderance of evil hearts'

Abstract. The article describes the study of the silver framing of an icon, in which the hallmarks of the assay supervision must be recognized as fake by formal characteristics. A comprehensive study of the framing and the study of the history of the administrative divisions in the Russian Empire on the edge of 18th and 19th centuries made it possible to prove the authenticity of the assay marks affixed to the framing. As a result of the study, the mark of the assay master was introduced into the scientific circulation, and the previously unpublished assay mark of the city of Kostroma of the first half of the 19th century was discovered.

Key words: hallmarks of assay supervision, unknown assay master, examination of objects of art made of precious metals, attribution of works of art, database of stamps on items of decorative and applied art.
