The creation and functioning of the penitentiary system
in the Kaliningrad region in 1945–1949
Abstract. The article examines the issues of the creation and functioning of the penitentiary system in the Kaliningrad region during the period of the region's integration into the Soviet Union. The main attention is paid to the activities of correctional labor colonies and individual camp points, the contingent of which was actively used in the restoration and construction work of various economic bodies. For the first time, documents concerning the issues of intelligence and operational work among the contingent of penitentiary institutions have been introduced into circulation, allowing us to assess its effectiveness in preventing negative phenomena in correctional labor institutions, as well as in the activities of the operational bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kaliningrad Region.
